In Austria is it necessary to have a handrail to get a certification for a finished house.
Our first idea was to buy a standard system, because it is cheap and easy to mount.
After the inspection of different possibilities, we decided to do it on our own way.
First we checked the Internet to get an inspiration. For me it was important that no screw or nut ist visible on the front.
After some days we had a plan for the realization. So I bought two rustic oak boards to draw the form on these.
I wanted start with a pair of compasses and different jigs to create the handrails.
Barbara had a better idea. She took a pencil and designed the form freehand.
Perfect ;-)
The next step was the cutting of the single elements.
Therefore I used the jigsaw, to realize the curves.
Now I was faced with the problem..."How can I fix the handrail at the wall with invisible screws?"
My idea was to drill a hole into the backside of the handrail and glue a nut in.
In every nut came a piece from a thread rod.
To cover the thread rod on the backside, my neighbour Klaus produced me a lot of cylinders it works as distance to the wall too.
Finally I cut the edges with the router and put a furniture oil on the finished handrails.
Two days later the handrails were ready to mount them in the stairway.
